ECP got the decision in the illegal funding case from "elsewhere": Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD:
Imran Khan,
the head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), called the judgement in the illegal
financing issue "wrong" and stated that the Election Commission of
Pakistan (ECP) obtained the ruling from "elsewhere."
Throughout a
meeting with leading reporters and anchorpeople at home Bani Gala in Islamabad,
Imran declared, "We did never disguise any form of money [from the
ECP]."
According to
the former prime minister, his party didn't engage in any illegal activity. He
claimed that the inquiries came about as a result of a legislation reform in
2017 and that Arif Naqvi, the CEO of the Dubai-based Abraaj Group, had not
engaged in any illicit fundraising.
Imran
attacked the ECP, claiming that 8 times it had ruled against the PTI, but that
the judiciary had since overturned those decisions. “Initiative is done the
same way everywhere... The only option that is available in this situation is
to seize any that shouldn't have been brought to the party "Said he.
The departed
prime minister acknowledged that choosing Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar
Sultan Raja was a "major error," but claimed that Raja was
recommended to him and that he wouldn't act unfairly.
The PTI
leader added that he doesn't worry about losing his position. “We aren't in any
threat since all was exposed at the Toshakhana [instance]. Since political
groups could be thrown aside in this way, they won't being able to destroy our
party.
He demanded
that the findings in the PML-N and the PPP lawsuits be released as soon as
possible and wondered why only the PTI financing case judgement had been
announced. “Each person should present a report of the income collected in
their login credentials.
He claimed
that he had made the decision to run concurrently for 9 National Assembly
constituencies. He said, "My legal advisors are investigating it, and if
there isn't any legal restriction, I will contest from these seats
personally."
